If you are thinking about buying a new bat for this season, you will want to read this.

Beginning on January 1st, 2018, Little League is adopting new bat standards for 9 year olds and up.  These are significant changes.  That link also shows approved bats for this season.  Bats from Single A to Juniors must be marked with a USA Baseball stamp.  This new standard is reportedly a revolutionary new technology that makes the bats the most like a wooden bat.  Here's the kicker:  all existing bats will no longer be legal to use, and the new bats don't go on sale until September.

With the new bats, players down to Single A will be able to use big barrel (2 5/8th inch) bats.  BBCOR bats will not be allowed for Juniors.  Seniors will continue to require BBCOR bats.  The league will update all bats in team bags for Single A and up for next season.

Bats for Coach Recovery and below will likely be transitioned out over time.  The board will need to vote on how that happens and when.

This will cause a lot of angst, to say the least, as bats can be expensive.  All baseball organizations are adopting, or are planning to adopt, this new standard.  We can't tell you not to buy a new bat, or if you do what kind of bat to get.  Those choices are yours.  We can only tell you what is coming.  We knew of this change, but had previously understood it would be a transition instead of a complete new standard, or we would have informed you about this sooner.
